FISHING SPOTS – PRESTON BEACH

Preston Beach is a fantastic fishing spot for the whole family and is between Mandurah and Bunbury, an easy drive from Perth.

When you get to the beach carpark, those without 4WDs can park at the end of Preston Beach Rd (which turns into Mitchell Rd) in the big carpark.

There are fish to be had right near the rocks but, as you can see above, a decent 4WD lets you head south or north with easy access to a usually very good beach for driving.

As you head in both directions you’ll be confronted with a shoreline that drops off a reasonable amount and almost never has a big swell to stop you fishing.

Whiting of several different types are in the beach breaks and a berley trail will usually bring in some herring, garfish and other smaller species.

Tailor are a real chance and salmon, during the colder months, are caught regularly.

Mulloway and sharks are also very common and Preston is famous for its big Shovelnose.

After we berleyed up hard during a comp, we even saw a pic of a bluefin tuna landed from the beach some hours later, in the middle of the day, so anything is possible!
